Losing Beckham was the biggest tragedy for England. He was always a player who could create goals and at least he could aim a free kick in the general vicinity of the goal! I think England are lost without him and I don't think the past performanbces would have been so bad if he had been playing. If he hadn't given up the armband he would still be playing but he should still be playing even without it! England cannot afford to lose players like him because he can always turn a game around even of he's not playing well. Lampard kills the game even if he's on form! The decision for beckham not to play for England anymore was disastrous and the team's form has proved that.

I think he was always going to go regardless of his being Captain. McLaren wanted to signal a new era and Beckham has been a polarizing figure for England, with most people either loving him or hating him. And after a bad World Cup he did not do himself any favors. Personally I don't think he should have started, but Sven just loved to stick to established players like him.

He does have some of the best passes anywhere. But his speed is just not good enough. Lennon seems a much better long term player, as does Joe Cole. Beckham could make it as a central midfielder but since that's the toughest spot to break in to, I doubt he will be capped again anytime soon, though he ought to have 1 last hurray.

Beckham gave up the captain's armband because he knew his England days were numbered. There is no way he should be reinstated to the team. He is not even a regular for Real Madrid. The future for England is with the younger players like Wright Phillips Lennon and Walcott. These are skillful and more importantly have speed.

I don't think so, i mean it's been years since he moved to Spain, and to be honest one player doesn't make a team so good for England for choosing a more dedicated team to ac as captain. England can't rely on someone who isn't constantly dedicated to the team, and living in another country is not the best commitment to judge on

No. He should not have been made skipper at all. Gary Neville should have been the obvious candidate then.
All the accuracy in Beckham's right foot have waned over the years and at the moment it would not make up for his lack of mobility and defensive inept.

He's the best free-kick taker in the world, perhaps of all time!! How many times did he save England's skin with a free kick, often in the last few minutes of an important game? On his day he is a fantastic passer too. It's ridiculous that he's not in the squad.

Still a great player, and at least he can pass a ball from one side of the pitch to the other!!!! better than the current crop of english players.

I think he jumped before he was pushed.
He is not getting regular matches for his own club which in a way speaks volumes for his football at the moment.
An England cap he will have to earn again on merit on not fame alone.

I never did think that he had what it takes. The only thing he is good for is free kicks, oh sorry and designing perfume packaging. I am English and think we could and should put out a much stronger team. Love to all in Aussie
