DSS paid a hospital bill for my parent and I couldn't afford it. Now they have placed a lien on my home.

At the time this happened, my aprent was only a permanent resident, but is a citizen now.

Most attorneys could handle this one.

I'd be curious why your parent's bill wound up on your home, if there's not something that makes you responsible, it wouldn't take but a single phone call.

On the other hand, if it's valid, there's not much to do about it but pay it, although your state law may not allow them to do anything but wait until the house is sold, or if you refinance the new bank might require it to be paid.
