It wouldn't be the first time Tony Blair and his loopy men told us complete falsehoods for their own purposes - the inflation figures of 2.4 % do not tally with money supply growth of 14% to August. Unemployment is nearer five million than whatever rubbish they are fabricating this time and housing figures are compiled by groups of people (ie building societies, banks, estate agents and politically pressured state sources) who have a vested interest in keeping the housing boom going. Meanwhile the replacement to 'bankrupcies' the IVA or Individual Voluntary Arrangements have mushroomed from 2,000 in 2002 to 40,000 in 2006. Are we being systematically lied to by the Labour government ???

The main problem emerging for the UK is the growing levels of unemployment and concealed unemployment. The jobless totals have been rising for the last two years. The number officially out of work stands at 1.68 million. If you factor in most of the people on disability benefit who would like a job and could do one, and those on other benefits like single parent benefit who would also like to find employment, we discover that there are a staggering 5 million people in the UK without jobs. The Chancellor himself believes that many of those on disability and single parent benefit should find jobs, and has developed elaborate programmes to bring this about. He is proving, yet again, that government programmes cannot overcome deeper seated obstacles to job creation in a modern economy.

Anyone who doesn't believe that the figures and statistics are manipulated are completely deluding themselves.
I'm a former Civil Servant for the Benefits Agency (or the Department of Works and pensions as it is now known) and think that I am in a position to comment on the unemployment statistics.
How many of you realise that when a partner claims on behalf of the family that only their unemployment is counted, regardless of how many people within the household are actually unemployed?
You do the maths.
How many people also realise that the recent move towards civil partnerships is nothing to do with equality but merely another government scheme to reduce benefit payments? Formerly, because homosexual partnerships were not recognised, gay couples could only claim as seperate individuals and were thus both entitled to more money than if if their partnership was recognised?
I rapidly came to the conclusion that the government never does anything that isn't somehow beneficial to itself - not the voting public.
The whole system is corrupt, but anyone with a modicum of intelligence knows this already.

and your own sources are??? Its amazing how people always undermine and dismiss sourced and verifiable statistics, yet never source or verify their alternative take on things. Unemployment is most certainly not 'nearer five million' and I'd be interested to know how you reckon it is. It is true in recent months there has been an upturn in the unemployment count, but at the same time the figures for those in employment suggest there is still a buoyant job market. As for the 'housing boom' the days of boom and bust belong to the Tory era. Labour have tried to stop a housing boom, always predicting that the housing market would slow as it does naturally in regular cycles. However prices remain buoyant and are holding.
If you can't source your own claims don't make the allegations.
Added: right your sources include a presentation for David Cameron, current Conservative Party leader (I say current because they've changed leaders more often than I change my energy saving lightbulbs). Well, must be right then musn't it? Oh and a newspaper - don't you know what they say? - Don't believe everything you read in a newspaper. You can't include those claiming benefits who are not actively seeking work amongst the unemployed claimant count because they are not seeking work. There have been schemes for ages to help single parents, those with disabilities and others who find it hard to re-enter the job market and there has been a great deal of success. In fact, the whole system is geared up far more to help those who need it than those who are skilled or educated. If you have a trade or training behind you the jobcentres have no idea what to do with you and just hope you'll be able to sort yourself out. And the reasons for the rise in bankruptcies is not as simplistic as you might believe - for many it is a way of ditching business they have run up debts against (sometimes in a quite calculated way) or personal debt. A taxi driver told me a while ago how he'd filed for bankruptcy to get rid of his credit card debts because his partner could access all the credit they needed to just carry on as usual - this was a London hackney cab driver who carried on working throughout this and admitted that what he had done was barely any different to downright theft, borrowing money he had no intention of paying back. Its too easy and too tempting to people and the Government shouldn't be blamed for that kind of consumerist greed.

Immigration has not added to the economy, but did they look at the costs -- all those pensions, medical fees etc that are now supplied to people who have never paid a penny towards them. I suspect the whole situation is far worse than even this report suggests. Lets keep an independant House of Lords - not in hock to the government of the day. Currently (I beleive) the only way into the lords is at the whim of the prime minister himself !!

Like 'Witchywoo' most civil servants could tell us stories about goverment manipulation of the true facts regarding unemployment, immigration etc but they don't want the sack or to be threatened with a breach of the Official Secrets Act. Remember,'How do you tell a politician is lying? their lips move!'

yes, like they all do. If we knew the truth, there'd be civil rioting. to lie is the only way to stay in power - and that is all that matters to a politician, not the people
