And why is it more accepted in society for the man to be older than the woman?

I personally think it's gross for a 50 year old man to be with a 20 year old woman, but that is so common in today's world and nobody mentions it, but when is a woman is older than the man, EVERYONE makes a big deal out of it.

WHY?

Even if the woman is, for example, only 5 years older, everybody will be talking as if it's so out of ordinary/weird.

I am 21 and my girlfriend is 29, and our relationship could not be more normal. I mean, it is far more normal than the relationships involving 20 year old women and 50+ year old men, yet those relationships are socially acceptable.

I don't know why. I guess because its more culturally accepted for an older man to be with a younger woman. I think its pretty gross myself. I personally like younger guys. I was married to one that was four years younger than me. I don't see anything wrong with it. Age is just a number.

no there is absolutely nothing wrong for a guy to be in a relationship with an older woman. well it's a different story if lets say a 50 year old man is dating a 20 year old. whats important is, if 2 people like/love eachother, age doesn't matter. age is just a number

I understand and sympathise with you!! I'm 23 and my partner is 20 and despite there only being a 3 year age gap we get all talk still. But despite all this as long as you love each other that is all that matters people will talk regardless if it wasn't the age gap they would find something else because there are a lot of people who are small minded and have nothing better to do with their time than bag others out because their own lives are so miserable. I applaud you and your partner, ignore what others have to say just focus on each other and your relationship. It s what works for you and your partner not you, your partner and everyone else!! Good luck!

I am 7 years older than my husband. He was 24 and I was 31 when we married. No one in our family or anyone else for that matter, really made that big a deal out of the age difference when we got together. We're going on 12 years of marriage so obviously age is not an issue for us.

The fact of the matter is I would love my husband no matter what age he is. He just turned 36 and has never been hotter in my eyes. To sum things up? Age means nothing. It's who you are and how committed you are to your relationship that counts.

In nature, the female tends to look for the mature, dominant male to be the provider, protector, and father of the children. This is seen as the more "natural" arrangement.

When the female is substantially older, it is assumed that she is the dominant one in such a relationship. This is unusual in that 1) the male is traditionally dominant in human cultures, and 2) the females tend to gravitate towards more powerful males.

Two strikes.

Of course, an 8 year difference such as you describe does make sense in America, where women live to be 84 but men only to 76 on average.

Men are less mature, so to be with a younger man is great in the sex department, but what about the maturity level. That is why older women with younger men is not all the popular. As for older men with young women...money, money, money or they are looking for that father figure they lacked in their youth. But, the maturity level is there.

It's not a big deal to me. I use to date men younger than me, I'm 41. I chose an older man now because he is more settled, knows what he wants in life verses many of the younger men I've dated. I'd say to each its own.

The reason they make a big deal is because everybody knows that women age like cheddar. They get better and better. you lucky dog you!!!!! No one has ever sweated me for cradle robbing. They usually give they guy his well deserved props when they see us together. i usually date men about 5 to 7 years younger because they can actually keep up with me. next time some one says something stupid about your age difference, just wink and nod and tell them that you are both peaking sexually. It will either shut them up or get them thinking that you may be on to something good.

That's just the way it is. No value in obsessing over it. Especially if you aren't involved in a relationship with a multi-decade age difference.
