I think you should make it relevant for our modern times. The most obvious thing about jazz, currently, is that it's not very popular. Back int the 50's jazz was huge. When rock n roll came along, the masses gravitated towards it. In your presentation, focus on the shift from jazz to rock (1)

In the late 60's jazz artists fused jazz and rock, this movement was called fusion. Miles Davis released the album Bitches Brew in the late 1960's. Bi*tch's Brew was considered the first fusion album. fusion was a big trend for jazz artists who needed to compete with the popularity of rock (2).

You can wrap up your presentation by talking about the new scene. If you need a musician to represent today's scene, I suggest John Ellis. He's young and very talented (3).
