Horrible old hormones. The same way 15 year old boys get all smelly and spotty and awkward and start mumbling and looking at the ground instead of having a normal conversation.

Did you ever think that maybe it's you. Not all girls become mean and bitchy at 15, and I'd be willing to bet bet that the ones that act that way toward you, are not that way all the time. You probably need to take a good long look in the mirror before making a statement like that. More often than not, we reap what we sow.

hmm... not sure i agree with your statement (i think the real meanness starts in college, and i don't think that many girls are really "bitchy"), but if true, it's most likely because the demographic of girls (without children) aged 15-25 is by far the most privileged demographic in society: tons of disposable income, little to no responsibility, and with all of the perks and privileges that come with being young and female.
and with that much privilege, there are no negative conquences that come with choosing to be a bad person, and we know that being a bad person is much easier than being a good person. so there you go.
but life has a way of turning the tables... when girls become women and reach age 35, they find they're not so privileged any more. and of course society gets to hear these women start moaning and groaning about their loss of privilege, but thankfully no one listens, except other members of their demographic. hence Oprah et al.
it's great to be a 15-25yo girl (without children); it's not so great to be a >35yo woman.

Hormones and association in school with others like that. Continue to love and support her and she will get her bearings and change back to a regular person in a few years.
Certain situations and stages in life are more difficult for some people and some families -- it depends on circumstances. Economics, family composition, neighborhood, opportunities available, available social support etc.
We don't have rites of passage provided by elders in our society after which a person becomes adult. That is a change we each go through alone searching for oneself in our society.
Oh, when my kids were teens I recall junior highschool and highschool teachers complaining about the same thing. Just think -- they are stuck with a lot of them. My son told me that his teacher went into the closet and refused to come out: the poor man had a nervous breakdown.

Unbelievable. How about because they have to deal with people (males) who are unwilling or incapable of putting themselves in another person's shoes even for a moment?
The age you mention is a serious time for changes in girls, but you are incredibly off base to say that most girls become mean and bitchy. Perhaps taking a look at how you treat girls this age might give you insight into why they behave the way they do.

Probably uncommunicative family. Families are too busy to guide her through her terrible teens. She has no one to talk with, so she takes her frustrations out on her peers, or teachers.
Another factor could be that she's being abused at home, hence she behaves in public the way her homelife is. She doesn't know any better.
Not all teen girls become mean. Those raised in respectable homes tend to turn out nicer. The mean one's are vile and vicious because that's the only way they know to behave, they don't have any positive role models.
The next factor could be genetics. However, those born with disorders such as Sid Vicious's wife, Nancy; and Courtney Love? The main element in their behavior was, first of all, a genetic disorder. However, many like themselves do turn out okay if they have understanding, supportive, caring family to guide them through those terrible years (teen).
So it all boils down to "bad family" again. The environment of where one is raised has a big impact on how one behaves in society. If they're hateful, it's because they were raised in a hateful home.
Yes, you posted it in the correct area. :-) Take care.

Moodiness is common in boys and girls during adolescence, starting about age 10. Lack of parental control and this modern attitude that kids can say anything on their minds without consequence has worsened the problem.
This tends to be the norm until they are secure with themselves and learn to take responsibility for their actions.

It isn't only girls who do it. There are plenty of boys who are the same way. It is all the teen angst stuff going on. Hormones play the biggest part, I think. Like Carol Burnett said,' Bury them at 12 and dig them up again at 21." All I can say is, Amen, to that.
