Friday (4.5 days ago) and I believe I am out of the woods! How do you think I should reward myself???

Wow! Several cool answers already. Thanks to all who are supportive and who've either been there or attempted to quit.

I'm no expert at this but I got tired of feeling less than 100% all the time. Plus, I've got two kids who do not know that i smoke(d) and I had been wanting to quit before they got older and smarter. I was just really afraid of breaking their trust in me were they to find out. That was my motivation.

I never smoked in the house (kids) so staying in over the weekend really helped.

I feel better already and I also feel as if some lines on my face have softened - its amazing just in 3 days!

Wow! Awesome!
You won't be completely out of the woods for another 5 years - but a reward is due, I agree.

Well - something where you can breath fresh air and enjoy this experience. How about a hike uphill with a picnic basket with your favorite Champaign and some yummy foods. Grab your (I hope nonsmoker) sweetheart and walk up some hill. Put some stones into the basket too so that you have a reminder of how much you have to catch up ;-) when you arrive at your picnic site

You are not out of the woods yet. the first two weeks are the most problematic. After that it is a little easier. It will take about a year to get rid of "twitchy fingers". The act of lighting a cigarette is surprisingly tough to beat. You don't know what to do with your fingers while doing other things and the urge just to light up is surprisingly strong. It tales a year to develop other twiddly things to occupy your fingers. Also, take just one cigarette after you quit, (during the first 6 or 12 months), and you are back on the habit. Do not smoke one cigarette again it will turn into the whole habit.. As for rewards, a nice coffee and chocolate pastry is not bad. Both have other stimulants that will take the place of nicotene. (namely caffein and theobrmine.)
Good luck and stay with it. The long term reward is 10% more lifetime, on average.

I was the same as you. Failed several times. I would try giving up again otherwise it will ruin your teeth and give you wrinkles, like my mum has.. Go to the doc and ask about giving up smoking... get nicotine gum, but make sure you get minty stuff otherwise it tastes horrible :L You should get it for free on prescription through your doctor because your in education. It helped so much for me, I used to smoke an average of 10 a day and now I smoke maybe once a week when I'm out with friends, and most of my cravings are gone. Its just breaking the habit really. I hope this helpss :)

I smoked for 51yrs, pack and a half a day and I quit one year ago tomorrow BUT 2 weeks ago I was involved in a very stressful situation and started again, so really you have to be careful there are no cigarettes around should you slip. I too was patting myself on the back and preaching to everyone who smoked to quit now I am right back where I stopped. Keep up the good work.

I stopped smoking 5 years ago and I am still not out of the woods. I have very bad COPD and still miss smoking. I'd say save your money for a year and do something that you have always wanted to do but never could. GOOD FOR YOU KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!!

That's the only way to do it. What kept me going was to learn the physiological addiction ends within 72 hours. The rest is a head trip. I built day by day success. After meals was the hardest. Haven't had a cigaret since. Many ways to reward yourself doing what you like, taking in a movie you want to see, asking that special one for a date, buying new clothes...just be good to yourself. You deserve it.

first of all (GOOG JOB) but don't jump the gun just yet i have smoked longer than you and quit for longer only to take it up again. take it one day at a time, try putting all the money you save on cigs and buy yourself something every week or month that you have been wanting but maybe did not have the money, but now you will. also every day first thing in the morning pat yourself on the back and count yourself as one of the lucky few who seems to be beating all odds for this filthy habit we have. good luck and i'll be rooting for you.

Take the money, you would have otherwise spent on your pack a day habit and take a trip somewhere, eat out somewhere nice, or pamper yourself at a spa, or go to a sporting event or concert. That's alot of bucks you saved yourself, and you can now enjoy it in other ways.
Congratulations!

4.5 days is definitely not out of the woods. I'm not saying you aren't gonna start smoking again... just keep up the hard work and don't get complacent.
