he may have gotten a raw deal on this one, but Fox has been wanting to get rid of him for a long time, for some of the past things he said.........

Well I'm not a Steve Lyons fan nor am I going to label you a racist. I think Lyons got a raw deal by being fired. But some discipline was in order simply because this is not his first time for on air remarks that didn't set well with "everyone". In the same breath, I'm no Lou Piniella fan either. In my opinion, Piniella is worse with his on field rants and rampages throughout his career so much so they are childish. I'm sad that the Cubs even hired the guy to be honest. Fox let Lyons go to avoid the wrath of Jessie and the ACLU is all.
Also to set the record, I too am fed up with everyone bowing down and bending over backwards to try and please everyone and having to be politically correct every time you open your mouth. The United States of America would be a better place without people and organizations like the ACLU, and just get back to the way it was that our country was built on.

I'm not a Steve Lyons fan. I heard the whole conversation between Lyons and Pinella. Pinella was showing his poor ability to speak Spanish and right after, he made the analogy of finding a wallet and looking for more wallets. Lyons was "goofing on him" for being such a lame commentator.
If Fox wants to fire him for this then just say he's fired for disrespecting his colleage. The awkward conversation between the two, was far from racial.
Also, I read the article in the news about this and found the quotes to be slightly inaccurate.

I think fans got the raw deal by having to listen to Lyons' drivel for the past decade.
As for the incident, I don't think Lyons meant to sound racist, but you have to be careful what you say in his position. To be honest, I was more offended by his comments earlier in the playoffs about that almost-blind fan when Lyons said he looked like he had a digital camera on his face.
I'm glad he's gone, but he should have been fired long ago for poor performance.
And I don't think anyone will label you racist for believing he got a raw deal, because I think we all have our own interpretation of what those comments meant.

Steve Lyons is overrated as a baseball analyst, but he got a raw deal just for saying something funny. Nobody took that joke as a racial slur. FOX was just looking for an excuse to can him.

I only read the text of his comments; I wasn't watching that game.
I think that there are some comments that are either so blatantly pejorative or insulting to a particular group that firing that commentator is the correct course of action. This did not appear to be one of those times.
It's also kind of funny that a notoriously sleazy network is trying to appear to take the high road on this. By showing such poor judgment (sometimes zero tolerance policies are for those that have no common sense) , I don't think they are doing anyone any good.

It was a total joke. Lyons got sacked, I think, for the cumulative effect of this and past problems he's had with Fox over other things he's said on air. They were looking for a reason... I hope he sues their butts off. Did he deserve it? HELL No. In today's hyper-sensitive, politically correct world, everyone's a victim now, except white anglo males, who are blamed for everything from racism to jock itch, and I'm sick of it.

I totally agree with your "question" there...I listened to the whole thing...people are so stupid about trying not to offend anyone. Honestly. He wasn't being racist in ANY WAY there...also, news updates say Lou is coming to his defense (excellent).
