I have had migraines for 30 years now. Sometimes you can't hold anything down until the pain subsides. When I have a migraine all I want is something citrusy. Try an orange. Seems to help settle my stomach. Or some crackers. Sometimes I can have orange juice. Nothing else. Worth a try to get something in your tummy. Go make a hot bath, as hot as you can stand it. Lie down in in. Turn off all the lights. I put a towel on the back of the tub and just float my head. Relax. It will help the constricting blood vessels. I do this a lot.

I know this may sound strange but I get really bad migraines like the one you described. What works for me is: banana or root beer popsicles. Also, drinking a bottle of coke that is at room temperature works for me sometimes too. I have had migraines all my life and have tried all the prescription meds for them. None of them worked. However, a friend talked me into trying Excedrin Migraine and it works! Even if I am already experiencing a full-blown migraine the Excedrine Migraine will work.

I hope this helps.

nausea is a symptom of migraines. It may be pointless to try and eat till the headach is over. You could try some soda crackers (saltines) as sometimes they help with the nausea. For the pain you could try mixing white vinegar and hot water dip a washcloth in the mixture and ring it out really well and place it on the head it works great for headaches replace the cloth as it cools. Dim the lights and have it quiet.

Try small sips of broth, like chicken or beef, or veggie. Bland food like crackers can help as well, as bannanas, apple sauce or toast, for nausea. Tell her to take sips every five minutes or so of broth.
Ginger ale, and ginger tea have anti-nausea properties as well.
Stay away from anything spicy, chocolate, and highly carbonated and caffienated drinks (like colas).
She is hungry, which is good, but she may not be able to keep anything down for long until the migraine goes away. Remember, small bites, and eaten slowly will reduce the risk of nausea.

About all that MIGHT stay down is plain saltine crackers. It's not much, but it's better than nothing. Try to get rid of the migraine. I'm sure you don't want to have it....have you tried soaking in a hot bath with the lights on real low ?

if she is vomiting due to the migraine, then she needs to stick with clear liquids until the migraine passes. Things like broth, or jello might help her to feel full. If she keeps vomiting on clear liquids then she needs to go at least four hours with nothing by mouth, so the stomach can relax, then try only clear liquids again.
