When I was pregnant I saw my midwife at 7 weeks and she said I didn't need to see her again until I was 28 weeks because in between that I would have 2 scans at the hospital and all the blood work done. She said if I had any concerns or I wanted to hear the babies heartbeat between appointments that was fine I could just turn up at the clinic. This was my 3rd pregnancy. 1st miscarried at 10 weeks, 2nd I had twins (also a very tough pregnancy developed pre-eclampsia and had twins by emergency c-section at 32 weeks) I never saw my midwife at all with the twins pregnancy I was under the consultant at the hospital who saw me every week. Miscarried the 3rd at 9 weeks. So even though I'm considered "high risk" with pregnancies there is not a lot they can do in the early stages. You saw your midwife at 12 weeks. You should have had a scan around that time too (dating scan) then you should have had another scan at 18 weeks (when they check the full development of the baby) and you should have had your blood work done too. At 28 weeks you really should be making and appointment to see the midwife. You can go and see her every week if you want too until the baby is born. It really depends on the individual, some women are comfortable seeing her once a month. You should see her a bit more regular in the later stages. Good Luck!

Don't Panic,it's normal. The midwifes visit at 12 weeks was probably for your hospital booking, booking bloods etc.
You will see the midwife for about 14 days after you've had the baby.As long as there are no problems with you or the baby,You will passed on to your health visitor.

in the uk
you have a scan at 12 weeks
bloods at 16 weeks
scan 20 weeks
check up 24 weeks-
Bloods 28 weeks
check up then every 2 weeks to 36 weeks then weekly!!
although if you've seen a consultant this is classed as a contact
phone your midwife if you have any concerns!!

I'd agree with Ladymoonlight.

My 3rd baby is 13 weeks old now and my appointments were pretty much the same.

1st appt - at the Dr's to confirm pregnancy - 6 weeks
2nd appt - 1st scan & booking approx 10-12 weeks
3rd appt - bloods - 16 weeks
4th appt - anomaly scan - 20 weeks

after that at 24 weeks i met my com midwife for the 1st time

28 weeks more bloods
32 weeks next com midwife appt
34weeks next com midwife appt
36 weeks next com midwife appt, then weekly after that!

I didn't really see much of mine at all until I was about 26 weeks pregnant.

I saw her for the initial booking visit at about 10 weeks - went to the hospital for the scans, blood tests etc, but nothing really after that.

I was told to go and see her (at the GPs surgery) at 26 weeks. That was when she started doing regular ante natal checks - urine, blood pressure, fundal height etc.

I went to our local hospital (birth centre) a few times with concerns and worries I had and saw her there (and the other midwives who worked there).

She also came round to see me one Sunday morning after I'd had a bit of a "meltdown" the night before (we were having problems at home) and called the birth centre in a tearful hormonal wreck protesting I "couldn't cope" anymore! She came around to see me and it was so nice of her. Calmed me right down and got me back on track.

I'm 32 weeks pregnant now and am seeing her every two weeks. It increases to every week once you get to about 36 weeks pregnant.

My midwife doesn't home visit, like I said, she has a clinic every Weds at the GP surgery.

If you are concerned about not having seen yours for a while then give her a ring - you have the number of the hospital/birth centre on your pregnancy notes don't you? Mine also has a mobile number but we've been told not to ring that unless she asks you to as she might not be on duty when you ring. If you ring the birth centre there is always someone on duty even if its not YOUR actual midiwfe.

Give them a ring and find out what is going on and when you can expect to see her next. If you are having a trouble free pregnancy then many midwives don't bother starting the regular ante natal checks until you are about 30 weeks as baby will still be turning around and the growth pattern won't be established etc. But its good to know she's on the end of a phone if you have any worries.

please make an app asap for the docs or midwife that is far to long to go without seeing them, ive had 3 children and with my last child my app were about every 6 wks. there is a blood test you get down wen your about 16wks ( maybe you didnt want it ) but thats wen you usually see your midwife again. if this is your 1st baby it is normal to go once a mth to see her then every fortnight wen your about 7mths then every wk wen your 8mths. did you get your 20wk scan, you also should have seen a midwife at the hospital after your scan

Different health authorities around the country do it differently, but i saw mine at weeks 12, 20, 28, 32, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41 and 42.

I dont think generally they see you too much at the beginning, but they do see you more the closer to the end you get. I would ring and see if you need to ee her. You ought to be having your blood pressure taken and having your urine tested regularly throughout the pregnancy.

My partner sees hers around every 4 weeks although she has to visit her at the local health centre. She only got the home visit the 1st time.

You should have been given a sheet with all your visits marked on it and the main topics / things you be looking at and talking about. Get in touch and sort it out.

if you are going to antinatel for your check ups then there is no need for the midwife to do any home visits.

unless there are problems with your pregnancy.

my midwife only visited me when i was eight months pregnant.
you will see her after baby is born though to check on you and baby.
