Oh Boy! If the wood is a waxed wood, rub some mineral spirit (it's a grandma thing) on the mark. If it's really bad, you can : a) rub a little cigarette ash into the mark (works well on medium woods) then buff with furniture polish. b) rub a little shoe polish over the mark, then dilute it with mineral spirit, rubbing a cotton ball soaked in the stuff over it so the two shades match. It sounds silly but trust me it works better than comercial products. Don't rub things like rubbing alcohol or vinager over it. Though I'm a huge fan of both for cleaning and removing marks, they will damage wood finishes and surfaces. You could polish it a lot with pledge or liquid gold or any polish like that, but then your furniture will always need to be polished with it ... meaning that you'll have to do it more often too. Just a suggestion : If you do a lot of partying or have little kids consider getting a plexi-glass sheet to cover the top of the table so you don't have to worry about water marks or anything like that at the party or until the kids get bigger. The Plexi is just plastic so the edges can be softened for kids safety, and will weigh little so you can move it and store it easily.
