No, doubt it because sammy hagar already had a defined music career by the 80's after releasing several solo albums and being the frontman of the popular rock group, Montrose. He had quite a sucessful career before joining van halen in 1986 which is why I doubt that he would be on star search.

No. His first big-time music experience was with Montrose (Ronnie Montrose's band), and their first album came out in 1973. He was doing solo work into the early 80's, then joined Van Halen around '85 or '86.
