There are 2 common payment schemes for sitcoms, the succesful ones such as friends etc get paid by episode. the friends team were getting $1 million per episode.
Others get paid a lump sum upon contract signature.

Where does the money come from?

The networks that produce the sitcoms pay based on selling rights to other stations and advertising revenue. The higher the revenue, the more the crew gets.
