There are no reprocussions. You can change it the same day, in a week, in a year, or not at all. There is no law that tells you what to do with your name. Change it at your leisure, or keep it the same - it matters not in the eyes of the law.

All official documents that have your name on it will eventually have to be changed, including your driver's license, social security card, student ID, any form of identification basically; creidt cards, bills, stuff like this.

When you filed your license you should put you are changing your name. You should change it asap. You need to change your driver's license, social security , bank and credit cards, any bills in your name. Most need a copy of the marriage license to do it. You can get one about a month after you're married at the city hall where it was filed.

Assuming you live in the U.S. you will need to have your name changed on your Social Security card. You will also have to have it changed on your drivers license. Once you do those then you can change things that have your name on it like bank accounts, credit cards, bills etc. Legally you don't even have to change your name at all. You don't have to have it all done that same day.

For your Social Security go to a local office. You can find more info at their website.

For your drivers license go to where you get your license.

For both things you need to bring your original Marriage License and the items you are changing your name on.

Well first of all Congradulations-
To be safe I would wait a few-
Just a little on my expierience:\
I got married and changed my name to my husbands at the court house, I needed my birth certificate, license, and my proof of marriage(certificate)
I loved this man, thought he was going to be my husband forever!Year and a half later I find myself going through all the procedures to get my maiden name back- divorce
I swear this man had me fooled for real-
Be careful- they talk a good talk before- but in the relationship after marriage / they sure do change!

You can change it at any given time. My mother in law didn't change hers for about 30 years after the marriage.

Fit it in your schedule. You'll need to go to the social securty office first then DMV and so on. If you have credit cards and want to change them too, then do so after all the rest of it is changed.

When you get married and say I do ,your name automatically changes to his last name. If for some reason you want to keep your maiden name you have to get a lawyer to change it back to your maiden maiden. I don't think they will do that when you all go for the license, it may be that they can, just ask the man at the courthouse when you get your license. Best of luck on your coming marriage.

You need a new social security card, and a new drivers license. All you need to do is bring your marraige license in with you to do it. I'd do it as soon as possible. Don't let your husband feel bad because his wife is taking her time to take his name.

If I intended to get married, I'd keep my last name. You don't have to change it anymore. But if you do, I'd imagine that you'd be able to do it any time. Don't know about the documents, though.
