How old do you have to be to become a captain?

You have to be at least 18 years old to start working on the water.
Then you have to spend at least 1 year to get enough "Sea Time"
to start the process. You can talk to Someone at a Maritime School for more Information. The Captain's License is based on The amount of time you have on the water it also is based on the Tonnage of the Vessel that you have worked on.

To get a Coast Guards captains license you must be 18, have completed enough experience hours , take a course ,pass the test, and pass the physical. There are advaned levels available.
To get to be a captain in the Navy or Coast Guard you will be 35 to 40 to have gone through the ranks. Captain in the marines or army is the same as lieutenant in the Navy.
