She certainly got a sweetheart deal I wonder what would have happened to a less connected person who gave material aid to a convicted terrorist.

Let me gaze into my crystal ball and make a prediction. When she gets out of prison she will be hailed as a hero by the liberals. They will use her as an example of how the mean ole Republicans treat decent honest people.

It makes very little difference what the sentence is: she will be dead of cancer in two years.

The fact remains that she was targeted; but she should have been smart enough to know that she would be a target. I feel bad not for her but for her genuinely innocent interpreter who was equally blamed. He could not be expected to know the details of her deal with the Government, nor did he tell do anything but interpret (i.e., he did not transmit anything to outsiders, terrorists or not). He was not paid enough to take such unknown risks. Unlike the lawyer, he had no agenda and no particular sympathies.

For the Government to pursue the interpreter is the height of cynical vendetta.

Not much - I think something along the lines of seven years without chance of parole would have been more just to the people at the mercy of the terrorist she represented.
