That mother-in-law relationship is always doomed I think. Nobody ever good enough for your daughter , etc.
She is a very opinionated hippie belly dancer with very strong opinions she impliments and insists that others comply with. My wife is very much the same. Insisting on an opinion or life plan or theory even when there is no good evidence for it. I think she thinks I'm mostly crazy and a drunk. I don't really care what she thinks of me. She is kind and loving and well meaning though. I like her. If she gets out of my way so I can accomplish something. Maybe there will be a place she could stay if and when she is old and sick in NH on our land. I would like to build some large wooden boxes there.

At first absolutely not. Now, she isn't too bad. I think that, as with any relationship, it takes time to form and grow. If you ask her advice, it makes things a lot easier. She will respect you for it and soon you will respect her too.
