If this is your first ballet class, then you shouldn't even be looking at pointe shoes (directed at the previous answerer).
You don't say how old you are, so it's a little hard to recommend something. Many younder students who are still growing prefer the Payless ballet shoes because they are inexpensive. However, if your growing has slowed a little bit, then I recommend Bloch split sole shoes. They allow you flexibility in your point and releves and are much more elegant looking.
As far as preparing, work on your splits, CAREFULLY! Also, work on standing on one leg. Do this both flat footed and while balancing on the balls of your feet (your heels raised). Keep your knees and back straight and put your hands on your hips. Aim for 30 seconds on each leg. : )

For your first class you will need soft shoes, better know as plain-Jane ballet shoes. There are a few things to consider when buying them. Leather is durable, but it doesn't breath well, i.e. your feet will sweat like crazy and your shoes will smell terribly. I prefer canvas shoes and always recommend them to my students. There are handfuls of brands from which to choose. Bloch shoes usually look nice on any foot and are great for beginners. I wear Grishkos. It all just depends on what feels and fits best for you. Keep in mind they should fit exactly. There really shouldn't be any "growing" room, but they should not be too constricting either.
Extra advice. Unless your instructor says otherwise, assume you will need to wear pink tights and a black leotard. If length permits, your hair ought to be in a bun and bangs secured back. Good luck!

Pink ballet slippers. Dance tights and leotard. make sure whatever you wear is comfortable. Also, leg warmers are great to help keep you muscles from cramping up. As far as preperation, just go in with the knowledge that is will not always be easy...classical ballet looks flawless, but is VERY difficult and VERY strenuouse on your body. Take the best care of your body!!

Pink ballet slippers, pink tights and black leotard. Keep your hair pulled back in a bun, no hair on your face. And enjoy the class. Ballet is fun!

ballet slippers, not pointe shoes. Ask about the color, my studio allows all colors, but your studio might have a specific dress code rule about it. From what I've seen they come in pink, white, and black. Mine are and have always been black, but thats just me. Start stretching for about ten minutes a day or more to get your body used to it.

shoes aren't to any extent further too casual. For hip-hop i like to recommend no longer to placed on jazz footwear because they do no longer have sufficient help for hip-hop. yet you could placed on jazz shoes, they do have help notwithstanding the con is that jazz footwear help you aspect your feet yet in hip-hop pointing does no longer help the technique. So i imagine basically street shoes are the ultimate, and plus even the experts placed on street shoes! For average outfit i like to recommend sweat pants and a tanktop or a t blouse. i for my section imagine that tight issues do no longer look that strong in hip-hop. yet basically placed on some thing you're tender in and would flow in. issues to dodge are very complicated clothing, clothing that would have a cloth cabinet malfunction, and garments you won't be able to flow in. have relaxing!

Go to a store that supplies profesional dancers. When my daughter needed her toe shoes, we went through several brands to determine the best fit for her needs.
