For ie. The Andy Griffith Show, Friends, Sanford and Son- do they just re-use the props or do they auction them off?

Every case varies. On older shows they will auction some off, some go in to the prop department for re-use and some go to museums. For instance, the Smithsonian has the complete "The Swamp" tent from M.A.S.H. and Archie and Edith's chairs from All In The Family.

On newer shows, a good chunk of them do go to auction. Either they donate the money to charity or use it to help with future episodes.

Probably just throw them out or store them somewhere unless there might be some great demand for them. But even most of the popular sci-fi props don't get auctioned off.

They re-use things as long as they can; then they either toss them or send them to auction. It's more clothes than props that get auctioned, however.
