The first one you can solve by rearranging:

x^2=36

Then take the square root of both sides, keeping in mind that the answer could be either positive or negative (since a negative number squared is positive).

x=+/-6 that is x=6 or x=-6.

You didn't write what the second one equaled, but I'm assuming it's:

-x^2+14x+49=0

Unfortunately, this is not factorable. You can use the quadratic formula or completing the square. I'm going to use completing the square, first multiplying everything by -1 and bringing the constant to the righthand side.

x^2-14x = 49

In completing the square, the second term will be half the middle term, with the sign of the middle term, so that's -7. To get the third term, you square it: (-7)^2 = 49. Add that to both sides.

x^2 - 14x + 49 = 49 + 49

(x-7)^2 = 98

x-7 = +/-√(98) = +/-7√(2)

x = 7+/-7√(2)

Hope that helps.

subject a million. x^2 - 14x + 40 9 = 4 => x^2 - 14x + 40 9 - 4 = 0 => x^2 - 14x + 40 5 = 0 wreck ( -14) such that it is the sum of two numbers (detrimental) => x^2 - 9x - 5x + 40 5 = 0 => x (x - 9) - 5 (x - 9) = 0 (Grouping and getting rid of commom (x - 9)) => (x - 5) * (x - 9) = 0 as a result x = (5,9) subject 2. t^2 - 16t + sixty 4 = 25 (remedy in addition as above) => t^2 - 16t + sixty 4 - 25 = 0 => t^2 - 16t + 39 = 0 => t^2 - 13t - 3t + 39 = 0 => t*(t - 13) - 3*(t - 13) = 0 as a result t =(3,13) subject 3. I dunno what's meant by using acceptable sq. approach, yet i think of you may desire to proceed this way (x - 3)^2 = sixteen Taking root on the two aspects => x - 3 = 4 or x - 3 = -4 => x = 4 + 3 or x = -4 + 3 as a result x(7, -a million)

a) 36 - x^2 = 0

x^2 = 36

So x = 6 or x = -6

b)

-x^2 + 14x + 49 = 0

-1(x+7)(x+7) = 0

x = -7

x = 1

Are you sure the second one is correct? It won't work with a -x^2 up front.
