I'm doing a lab for class and I'm wondering which of there compounds are acids and which are bases or neither. they are:
barium chloride
copper (II) sulfate
lead (II) nitrate
magnesium nitrate
nickel (II) sulfate
sodium carbonate
sodium hydroxide
zinc (II) chloride.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

barium chloride - salt, thus neither
copper (II) sulfate - salt, thus neither
lead (II) nitrate - salt, thus neither
magnesium nitrate - salt, thus neither
nickel (II) sulfate - salt, thus neither
sodium carbonate - salt, thus neither
sodium hydroxide - Base
zinc (II) chloride - salt, thus neither

A good way to tell if something is a salt, is if half of it would be found in an acid, and half in a base. ex:
barium chloride is from Barium Carbonate (base) reacting with Hydrochloric acid.
