Shes in her first trimester, all the websites say no in the first trimester but theres no explanation. If i just tell the maseuse to lay off her lower back and abdomen what could possibly be the problem. She really wants one and I know it would make her feel better. Any suggestions

I am five months preg. My BF is a massage therapist and has given me massages since before I found out I was preg. and everything seems to be fine. this is my first pregnancy and I have had a miscarriage in the past (not because of a massage either). I too, don't understand why they say no massage in the first because nothing happened. but it could be that my BF knows to stay away from the so called trigger points Lower back and heel of the foot I think he said?? anyway now that I am in my second Tri I plan to get the mommy massage once a month.

The lower back and abdomen are actually not the concern. The massage therapist should stay away from certain pressure points on the feet that could induce contractions. Also, I think no deep tissue work. A MT who does cranial sacral therapy would be WONDERFUL for her. Make sure the MT knows that she is pregnant when she makes the appointment so that s/he will avoid the forbidden pressure points. I saw an MT monthly through all three of my pregnancies. It is GREAT for a PG woman. Will help keep the aches and pains of pregnancy away and will help keep the body in balance which will make labor easier. Will also help teach her to relax for labor.

Ask her doctor first. But I don't see why a massage would hurt as long as the masseuse knows what he/she is doing as far as a pregnant woman goes. A massage would probably really make her feel great. Heck, I love massages and they always relax me.

I am a mother of two with one on the way and also a "Massage Therapist". It is safe, as long as, she isn't high risk, doesn't have a history of miscarriage, and this isn't her first pregnancy. Make sure you choose a practitioner that is licenced and knows prenatal massage. That way they know which pressure points not to touch and all of the precautions that go along with prenatal care. Most massage therapists basically focus on relief of fatigue and nausea. Good Luck!

I have never heard of this but it would be best to ask your doctor first and if they say it is ok then maybe they know of a masseuse who gives back massages to pregnant women.

Ask her to wait until she's out of the first tri-mester. Doctors say that massages and pedicures trigger pressure points on your body that could induce a miscarriage. She should get massages and pedicures when trying to go into labor. The second trimester is known as the virtually danger free zone and she should be fine. Good luck and congrats to the both of you!

Call your doctor first and ask him the questions like why it is not good to have one in your first trimester. If there is no explanation let her do it.

Pregnancy massages will be ok when shes in her second trimester...although if she wants one that bad have her call her ob/gyn to see what they suggest. Good luck!

Have her ask her doctor if they can recommend someone that is trained in pre-natal massage. I was getting horrible migraines while pregnant and since I couldn't take my Advil for them I went in for massages and I never had another migrain after the 2nd massage.

Ask for a Pregnancy massage. They are special and the therapist should be trained in where to work and how hard to press on her.

If a reputable place tells you no...She'll just have to wait it out.
