Food poisoning can be caused by bacteria, parasites, and viruses. The organism must multiply before it can do any damage, but depending on the organism, 13.5 hours could be enough time. Your symptoms are typical of food poisoning, as is the food preparation method of a "buffet". The more exposure that your food has to the environment, the more likely it will pick up a potentially harmful organism.

Yes, 24-48 hours. You may have a bug. It is very hard for doctors to tell the difference. It could be that you didn't get it from the buffet. Perhaps you came into contact with the bacteria some other way. You may have either touched something and then touched your mouth/nose or ate something prior to the buffet.
Don't eat until you want you. All you need right now are fluids. Gatorade, juice, warm chicken broth, water and jello. When you are feeling better try a couple bland crackers or plain rice or rice cooked in chicken broth. You need the salt.

She's right, but it could happen as fast as a couple hours. Sorry you had to go through this. NOW..call the health dept. and report them. It's very necessary for them to check this establishment to make sure they are following all the guidelines to keep patrons safe.
Drink lots of water to flush this through your system. If need be, go to the ER if you have black stools and are vomiting. Glad you are feeling better...Soups and crackers for the next 24 hours. I'm sorry this happened. Stay down, and sleep..OK? GB
