The quadrilaterals PQRS and WXYZ are similar. Find the length of x.
side QR is 2, RS is 4, SP is 3, and PQ is 7.
side XY is "x", YZ is 6.4, ZW is 4.8, and WX is 11.2
thanks so much. I'm trying to help my cousin with his math. I have been out of school for a while so I don't remember much.

If the figures are "similar," then the ratios of the corresponding sides are all the same; that is:

11.2/7=6.4/4=4.8/3=x/2

Since we can calculate this ratio (11.2/7=6.4/4=4.8/3=1.6), we know that x/2=1.6. Then we solve this equation for x:

x/2=1.6
Multiply both sides of the equation by 2 to get
x=2(1.6)
x=3.2

Similar means that corresponding sides are proportional. If you find the ratio of RS to SP, the ratio for YZ to ZW will reduce to the same 4/3.

So trying to find x means that you'll set up a proportion with the corresponding sides. QR/RS = XY/YZ
2/4 = x/6.4 Now cross multiply.
4x = 12.8
x = 3.2

Just set up ratios.

I'll imagine the quadrilaterals are:

Left side: PQ
Top: QR
Right: RS:
Bottom: SP

Same for: WX / XY / YZ / ZW

So:

7 is similar to 11.2
2 is to x
4 is to 6.4
3 is to 4.8

The relationship is 1.6 to 1.

So, x is 3.2

Easy, I just did that lesson, X= 3.2

Just incase you want to make sure
(4x1.6=6.4, 3x1.6=4.8, 7x1.6=11.2) so 2x1.6 must be 3.2
