Whatever fits your personality...there is no universal perfect pet, in my opinion. It's an individual thing.

I guess it would depend on what you are looking for in a pet. Do you want a pet that can go out with you on walks, or do you want a low-hassle pet like a cat. Or maybe you want a small animal because you don't have a lot of space. In Europe, many people who live in apartments opt for a pet rat because they are clean and can be trained, but they don't take up a lot of space. Even within a species, there are many different aspect to look at. Is your lifestyle busy, do you want to have to walk your dog 2-3x per day. Our dogs are very high energy and will become distructive without 3 walks a day. And I am not talking about around the block and back. My husband goes on regular 5-10 mile walks with our dogs and they are still looking for more!

Everyone's perfect pet is different, it depends on your preferences, space, and lifestyle.
PS - labradoodles are not completely allergy free, some people are allergic to dog's saliva, and if the dog has a textured coat (more of a lab coat, which can happen as this is a mixed breed dog, and genetics are a complicated thing) it can still aggravate allergies. They are more allergy friendly dogs but are not hypoallergenic.

I prefer cats. You don't have to take them for walks and can be left alone for periods of time without you having to worry about them. They are relatively easy to care for and are just as loving as a dog.

I like mice... They're cute, small, easy to keep, curious, adorable little animals; and they don't live too long, so you can have several of them with minimal committment. Cats are great too... Independent, mellow, like to do what I like to do (lounge around in peace and quiet).
Dogs - not for me. Needy, time-consuming, active, dirty, noisy, desperate for attention; don't think so.

For a first pet, a small caged animal or fish is probably best.
