Actually there are more similarities than differences. There are some sharks that give live birth, and there are some mammals that are exclusively aquatic and also some mammals that lay eggs(platypus and echidna).
The main difference between fish and mammals is the heating system and respiration. Mammals are warm blooded whereas fish are cold blooded. Fish breathe exclusively through gills, mammals have lungs. Mammals also provide milk for their young and have hair.
That about does it...

"i only know that fish lay eggs and mammals do not." As some mammals lay eggs while some fish give birth to live young, what you think you know could require some rethinking. Mammals are warm-blooded critters; known as endotherms. They generate heat inside their bodies. Fish don't. Mammals, at least during part of their life, have some hair or fur somewhere or other, yea, even dolphins. Fish don't. Mammals feed their young milk from mammary glands on females (or plastic bottles in some cases). Fish don't. Mammals have a lower jaw composed of a single bone called the dentary, and it's joined to the skull by a link called the dentary-squamosal. Fish have multi-boned lower jaws, and no dentary-squamosal joint. "I also do not understand how a shark is a fish it does not lay eggs." It's only a fish in a loose meaning of the word. Some sharks, as for some fish, give birth to live young. Other sharks, as with other fish (and a couple of mammals), lay eggs.

To para phrase the poet: "let me count the ways".
Both belong to the order chordata
Fish belong the the order Pisces and mammals belong to the order mammalia.
Fish are mostly cold blooded, mammals are warm blooded.
Fish are viviparous and mammals birth live young.
Mammals also have some form of mammary glands, fish do not.
Fish obtain oxygen from water with gills and mammals breath air with lungs
There are more but this some of the differences.

Mammals are warm blooded, meaning they can regulate their body temperature; while fish are cold blooded, which means their body temperature is determined by the environment they are in at the time. Mammals also give birth to live offspring, while fish lay eggs. Although mammals such as whales and seals live in the oceans and waterways, they did not evolve from fish directly. The evolutionary pathway to Mammals goes from fish goes to amphibians to lizards than to mammals. Mammals such as whales were land creatures sometime in the Eocene, but adapted to a changing world by returning to the sea. Scientists believe that the polar bear is evolving into a sea creature because of its agility in the water, and the fact that its environment is melting. Many thousand years from now, polar bears could live, eat and reproduce at sea.

these two are basically 2 different groups . so there are many difference anotamically and physiologically . main things are all the fishes are aquatic , they lay eggs , they use fins for locomotion, body is covered by scales etc.,mammals are mostly terrestrial, they give birth young once , they feed the young once by mammary galnds[ thas why the name is mammals]locomotion by limbs etc
