Sounds like you want some of that rubberized coating used for tool handles and such. Any good paint department will have that stuff.

I think it's called "Plasti-cote" or something. It's usually used for coating the handles of tools. The kind I used you had to dip the tool or brush the stuff on, but it may come in a spray, too. Ask someone in the tool dept at Home Depot (I think that is where I bought it before)

home depot, Canadian tire, walmart. there all carry metal rust free paint :):):) lot's of colours as well.
