I live in Northern California, I found a small red and light brown spider in my front yard, any ideas what kind of spider it is? its front is redish and its butt its light brown, almost a tainted white, the legs are red and brown mixed.

The brown spider you hear about is most likely a Brown Recluse. The bite from a brown recluse can be deadly!!!!!!! Do you remember if it had a violin shape on the back? That is the mark of a brown recluse. Get to a doctor and tell them you may have been bitten by a spider. They will know what to do. Do not take any chances . A friend of mine died just one month ago from a browns bite. Not to scare you but you should be serious about this bite!!!!!

hmmm.....I'm not sure about this but in your area they have found a species called a "brown widow" which is releated to the black widow....but if it's legs are red than i'm confident that it isn't a brown widow.....you might want to search online.....search yahoo under " spider species and descriptions"

i dont like spiders, it might be some tropical venoumos unidentified death spider that is going to eat us in our sleep, cheers i am going to have nightmares now!

Possibly a brown recluse and they are very venomous don't mess with it!
