Its a disgrace that people are not going to be compensated! The people who use these firms are, like you mentioned, single parents, large families and pensioners. This is a way of budgeting for those who would otherwise have difficulties. Directors of this company should hang their heads in shame.
Rant over.

I only found out yesterday (as had been away) that farepak had gone into receivership and burst into tears. What pis**es me off more is the fact that i am sure they will have a fab fab xmas without no guilt whatsoever on our bluming money. total wasucks!!!! I also read in another farefak forum (on this site) that someone had wrote it was only for council people and chaffs well i hope you read this IT WAS NOT. I don't live in a council house but was brought up in one and am proud and i am not a chaf and yet am i to understand what one is. Decent people of all classes put monies into this and what from ever class you are from it doesn't give farepak the right to swindle us. I rang my bank to cancel dd and you never guess what but farepak only took out the last two payments in one go and when i tried to challenged this the bank said that with a dd nobody had to be informed if the amount was upped or not So thatnk you to farepak ......hope you choke on everybody hampers and monies at evryones expense........a totally grieved honest person. And you what else grieves me is the fact that they had nearly 170000 customers, well a £ amonth would amount to that but they received either £10 - £200 a month which amounts to huge huge money with only about 300 staff where the hell has it gone????

I think its disgusting. Farepak hampers have been robbing people for years - mainly the people who are on a low budget and save weekly, by charging top prices for old crap basically. To do this to customers - some who have been loyal to them for years absolutely stinks. I really hope that people do get something back from them but I doubt it. Sadly it was written on the cards - with so many supermarkets selling stuff so cheap it was only a matter of time before they went to the wall. If only people had brought weekly savings stamps from the supermarkets they'd be quids in - but then its always easy to say after the event isnt it. xx

I have posted this answer elsewhere on this site - but given the nature of the question - and the number of similar questions - I don't think this will be seem as a violation of the community policy.
there is an incredible amout of injustice surrounding this situation...
I set up http://www.unfairpak.co.uk - see if we can divert some energy into getting to the bottom of this and do what we can to make it better for those who are going to suffer hardship as a result of the European Home Retail group's failed strategy and mistakes.
It would be amazing if there was no law broken. Apart from the law even the Grinch learned - Don't mess with Christmas!
My sympathy goes out to all the victims.

After reading comments in other forums it makes our £200 pale into insignificance but with family and friends in nearer £2000. They knew in early summer that there problems and stopped trading on the stock market, they knew that they where going into receivership, yet they still kept taken monies and final payments had to be made by the 6th of October. This is theft and illegal. And something should be done legal action should be taken, and questions asked in Parliament. If it was the other way round and you were court stealing from Farepak don't think that they would prosecute

Utterly Disgusted with Farepak. Find out where the Directors live and camp on their doorsteps. Freeze their bank a/c's, sell their houses, cars etc and give the people back their money.

well i know i can`t say on here what i think of farepak, but believe me it`s not good.i saved up £500 with them to help buy my 5 children what they wanted, but due to whats happened,i don`t know what kind of Christmas were gonna have,as on a low wage, you put that money in upfront so you expect to get it back.we do plan our Christmas funds all year round,on what we pay for.disgrace this kind of thing can go on specially as they are saying it`s be going on for some time now,and they still been taking our money when they knew months ago

Its not good fairpak going bust and fat cats lining there pockets but it shows how reliant we have all become on presents and money to make christmas good.
Get your family around tell em to bring a bottle and a small gift and then all have a drink and pass what gifts you can before singing a song and making christmas a what it should be about. Fun , love and rejoice over being together.

I think that people shouldn't even bother signing up for them...go into a bank and ask them for a savings account with some rules attached . ie let me take the money out in November so I can buy the christmas stuff.
Not only have you earn't a bit of interest, but you get cash, not vouchers which you can spend in retailers all over the world.
