Jealousy, low self esteem. Don't let it bother you, that is what they want you to do. If you ignore them, they will stop.

High school can be a very ridiculous time. People behave rather poorly & it's all about rivalry & other nonsense. They are probably insecure & it it the only way they can make themselves feel better. Sad, really.

Well, I can't answer for everybody, but for myself, I act like a jerk when I'm proved wrong by someone I look down on because I tend to look down on people who are less intelligent than me . . . and it really rankles me when stupid people are right and I am wrong.
(Paris Hilton really rankles me too - it doesn't seem right that stupid people are rich while I'm broke)

Because they try to act cool when really the only thing cool about them are the comebacks and the put-downs. They know that they are being proved wrong and they are worried about what they're possy willl think! :) hang i there

NO one likes to be proven wrong. It takes class to admit you're wrong and act like a grownup. Obviously they don't teach that in the school you're talking about.
