The general average weight for height in humans is based on generalisation. To give you an exact weight for height without knowing your 'form' may not be what you are looking for. I highly recommend seeing a Naturopath whom can do this test for you. So too, a Doctor, however they will give you the general menu based on general results which do not sit well with everyone, as no one is the same exactly.

No ones 'bones' are the same density or weight, nor are ones 'muscles' put together the same way either. People are either short or long muscled. Some people are solid built others are petite. Some work out others work in...lol...however, no two people can be generalised.

You will need to 'find' what weight sits right for you and not compare or be compared to anyone else. One more option may be to do the self 'pinch' test at a gym combined with a food suppliment if you have to balance out, be it acquiring more or less body weight.

Also at 17 you are still growing...backing off nutrition of any kind is not favoured....minerals are very important for growing women (and men of course) especially as we are the ones whom need our bodies to pump out more human jumping beans. And these beans mean business when it comes to growth....

At seventeen, you may be best to not worry too much, drink plenty of water and enjoy learning about 'new healthlful foods' as in whole foods.

You will find your middle road, then we learn how to keep ourselves 'there' lol.

Oh, and make sure you do it for yourself, not for someone else, it never works for someone else.

Ultimately, you should be a weight that is healthy, and that you are comfortable with.

As a more concrete answer, the United States Army says that a 17 year old, 5'8" female that weighs more than 164 pounds should be screened for the possibility of being overweight. Consider that those are standards for an extremely athletic slice of the US population.

I'm your height and at age 17 i was about 8 and a half stone. I know for sure that when i went for my first appointment when i was pregnant with first child at age 21 that i was just under 9 stone. I think it very much depends on your body type. I was always fairly slender and small-boobed at that age. Don't worry about your weight. Eat healthily and take exercise and enjoy your life. Now i'm late 40's and i weigh nearly 11 stone and people still dont think i'm fat - got a bit of a tummy perhaps!

You should ideally have a BMI (body mass index) of between 19 and 25. For your height as a female that would be anywhere from 58kg to 75kg. Varies from person to person and natural body shape / bone structure - look in a mirror, if you are all skin and bone despite a normal BMI you probably need to eat more. If you have a normal BMI but a lot of wobbly parts, it wouldn't hurt to eat a bit more healthily and do some exercise.

Don't get caught in the social trap that you should be skinny and where "hip-hugger" pants and skin tight shirts. Most girls can't wear that kind of clothing. You are what you are. If you want to change your size, do it because YOU want to (to be more healthy perhaps) but not because a chart or a study says you should weigh 117lbs or the model on the cover of Teen says you should. That's why we see kids with anerexia and bulemia. Pop culture is a bad influence!

Hi, Fiona,
I stuggled with weight until my late 20's...When I worried about it I just kept gaining. I finally realized I was putting too much pressure on myself. Find a size that you feel the most healthy at. Weight is irrelevant!! Being healthy and comfortable in you body is. Eat well and in moderation and exercise.

Go to this web site and caculate your BMI. It gives some guidance on where you should be BMI wise between ideal weights for your height and age.

http://www.phaster.com/unpretentious/bmi.html

It looks as though you should weigh between 130-160lbs. The second link has a calculator specifically for teens, so you might like to cross check the result on their calculator as well.

http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/index.htm

Apart from that, feel good about yourself and go daft trying to fit into someone elses opinion of what looks good!

There's not an exact weight. How are you built? Do you have a small frame? Are you muscular? If you have a small frame, and naturally lean, I would say 128-135. If you have big bones and are more "husky", I would say 136-148.
