0 latitude corresponds to the position of an imaginary line called equator or equatorial line. The area covered by 23 degrees north and south of this line is known as the equator. The line is also called the Great Circle. It divides the earth into Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere. The length of the equatorial line is 24,901.5 miles The sun crosses this line twice a year in what is called the March equinox and September Equinox In this dates, the sun is perpendicular to this line.
