We are going to Vegas in March and looking for a decent downtown hotel. Last time we stayed at the Golden Nugget, but I hear the construction there is really bad. Has anyone ever stayed at Fitzgerald's, Vegas Club, Four Queens, Main Street Station, or any other downtown hotel and have an opinion on it? Thanks!

I was at the Golden Nugget the weekend of October 6-9. Yes, there was construction. I could not hear it and I was on the second floor. The only inconvenience was it took some of the slot machines space and the buffet was not there. It's not affecting the rooms that I know of.
Main Street Station is nice but, if you get a room on the back side towards I-15, the train rumbles by around 7 a.m. each morning.
Lady Luck is clean and basic. Binions is clean, not sure about the rates. Fremont is good too. All about the same. Same with California Club.
Good luck.

I just got back from Vegas and while I didn't stay downtown, I did visit the Fremont St Experience. More than a couple friends in the past have recomended Fitzgerald's if I was interested in staying downtown and my friend Hollie just stayed there in the spring and loved it. It looked pretty clean and safe to me and a little newer looking than some of the others I saw downtown. I stayed at the Tropicana in an upgraded room for less than $50 a night. It had a great view and I joined the players club and they doubled my comps when I checked out and got another $20 off, I didn't gamble that much even. But I let them know how pleased I was with my stay as I was checking out. I didn't think downtown was all that, to tell you the truth. I loved NYNY myself. Good luck and have fun.

I'm a Vegas local, and to be quite honest, The Golden Nugget is the only downtown hotel I would chance...the rest just seem so dark with low ceilings and a lot of smoke. The closest to downtown that I would try would be The Stratosphere...they usually have really good rates and the rooms are all fairly new and very clean. It's pretty centrally located, so you could walk north into downtown or south towards the rest of the strip.

The Four Queens rooms are a little small, but it was pretty good. I would definitely stay there again. The Roulette tables are cheap and I had a lot of fun.
You might also want to try Binions. I haven't stayed there but the steak house on the top has the best Prime Rib I have ever had and a gorgeous view of the strip.

the appropriate motels downtown are the Golden Nugget and four Queens. The Strip is quite available by utilising the Deuce bus (from downtown you are able to seize it by utilising Neonopolis alongside Las Vegas Blvd). it quite is $3 each way or $7 for a 24-hour bypass. even if you do, do not attempt to stroll from downtown to the Strip and vice versa. it quite is a pair miles and you finally end up dealing with some seedy factors.

The "old downtown" is really shaping up nice there. But there really isn't any reason to stay down there - unless that is where you really want to stay. Just got an offer that Ceasar's Palace is offering rooms at $20 a night. If you get on the player's cards, you can get tons of offers.

I agree on the Four Queens. It's kind of outdated, but still very clean and nice. Stay away from any chain hotels down there like the Days Inn.

we just got back... we stayed at a "resort" called The Tuscany. Room was more like a condo with small kitchen... very large and inexpensive. it was on one of the side streets (down from the Belagio). The weather was great so we just walked to the strip!!

I stayed at the golden nugget not to long ago and as long as you don't care about not having a pool its no big deal I wouldn't stay anywhere but there. gl
