I agree with Dead Poet's Society- that's a very inspiring film. I also like To Kill a Mockingbird with Gregory Peck, it's outstanding.
Good Will Hunting- Film that put Matt Damon and Ben Affleck on the map. Robin Williams is amazing in this movie.
Mr Hollands Opus- is so endearing, it's really good!
The Karate Kid- An 80's classic. Fun and moving all at the same time. Great for any martial arts fan or a fan of the Rocky series.

Life Is Beautiful, whatever life throws at us we can still retain our humanity.
Although people often think old means cheesy I think the traditional choices: It's A Wonderful Life and Mr. Smith Goes To Washington haven't lost their impact over the years.
If you are not English then you might not be familiar with Ealing comedies but I would defiantly add Passport To Pimlico as THE classic "little fellow fights back" film.
Good question I enjoyed answering it!

A movie that I've never forgotten that moved me deeply and was very inspirational was "Resurrection" starring Ellen Burstyn, Sam Shepard, Eva LaGalliene, and Richard Farnsworth. It came out in the 80's, I believe.
