My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex and we did not use the pull out method either. But it is my understanding that there is only 1 day out of the month where you can become pregnant and that is supposed to be the 14th day of a regular cycle. The day after we had sex I got my period and it lasted for 3 days which is normal for me. So how likely would it be that I would become pregnant? I am not late now I am just thinking it is probably not possible. Is it? Please serious answers only. Thanks

Everyone's cycle is different. There is a myth that woman ovulate 14 days after their period begins...but that is only an AVERAGE and each month can be different. The other thing is that sperm can live inside you for up to 5 days.... The only way to know is to know exactly when you ovulate. There are several ways to know and some are more effective than others. Some can only predict before ovulation happens and some can only predict that is has already happened. The absolute best info I can give you is to go read a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive – or not! . It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. My husband and I tried for 1 year and had no luck. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths! Even if you don't get into charting and everything....it will help you in so many ways!

Well first of all sperm can live in a women's vagina for over a 24 hour period and there's more than one day that a women can get pregnant. Yes, one day will be most fertile day than perhaps the day before or the day after but you must remember those little boys can live up in a vagina for over 24 hours. That's the tricky part. You're usually fertile about 7 days after the last day of your period. Then your fertility window is more of less five days. What you must do is calculate when the last day of your period was count seven days forward then from that time frame is when you would have your most fertile days. The other thing you have to take into calculation is that every women's cycle is different from the next. Is your cycle 24, 26, 28? That also plays a huge roll in it as well. Do a google search on "ovulation calendars" there you can input when your the last day of your period was and it will give you an "estimate of your fertile days" perhaps it was not close to when you and your BF had unprotected sex. Good luck. And next time tell him to use a rubber if he loves you!!

There is only one day a month when you ovulate. But, the window during which having sex will likely to lead to conception is somewhat wider than that. Sperm can live for several days inside the woman's body (some research indicates up to six days) and the egg can be fertilized anytime from it's trip down the fallopian tubes into the uterus. So the couple of days immediately prior to and following ovulation are in the 'danger' zone for becoming pregnant. If you were at the end or your cycle and your period began the next day, then odds are good that you aren't pregnant (although it is possible to have a 'period' while pregnant.) However, contracting an STD is extremely possible if your partner was infected at the time (HPV is underdiagnosed, highly prevalent and can lead to cervical cancer in women - please make sure to have regular pap smears).

And, fyi - the pull out method is not fool proof for preventing pregnancy. Way before ejaculation, the man usually has some pre-ejaculate fluid that contains sperm. And, it can be difficult to withdraw when the time comes....

It's possible but not very likely. Ovulation occurs around the middle of a woman's cycle (specifically, in the middle third): If you have a 28-day cycle, for example, then you'll usually ovulate on the 14th day, counting the first day of your period as the first day of your cycle. If your period lasts seven or eight days, by the time you finish menstruating you're only five or six days away from ovulating. If you consider that sperm can live in the fallopian tube for two or three days, then you have a narrow window in which you could get pregnant if you ovulated a little earlier than normal. If you're not actively trying to get pregnant, it's always safer to use reliable contraception when you have sex, no matter when in it is during your cycle.

No, it's not at all true that there is only one day a month! Sperm can live in your reproductive tract for up to 5 days, given the presence of fertile conditions. Once you ovulate, the egg has a lifespan of about a day. Ideally, that makes a window of fertility of about 6 days each month.

Since most women ovulate 12-16 days before their period comes and the egg is only viable for about a day, by the time you are nearing your period (like when you had unprotected sex) you are in an infertile phase of your cycle. It's quite unlikely that you are pregnant from that encounter.

Since you're wanting to become pregnant, I strongly recommend "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. You'll learn about how your cycle works, when you're fertile within your cycle and how to determine which days offer you the best chance of getting pregnant.

The 14th day of the month is an average. Many women ovulate on a different day than that, you might consider taking an ovulation test or charting your BBT to figure out what your normal ovulation day is. You'll need to do this for at least 3 months to see if a pattern develops. Also, you don't have to have sex on that day to get pregnant. Sperm can live in the woman's body for at least 24 hours if not longer (I've heard as long as 5 days.) You would be better off on the birth control pill, patch or using condoms.

There is more than one day that you can get pregnant. For example, if you have sex a few days before you ovulate, then the sperm can live inside of you and still reach the egg and make you pregnant. And once you ovulate your body holds onto the egg for a few days, so during any of those days you could get pregnant if you have sex or have sperm inside of you. And by the way, the "pull-out method" is not effective birth control. A tiny bit of what is often referred to as "pre-c u m" comes out of the penis when a man has an erection, this fluid contains sperm. So even if your boyfriend ejaculates outside of you, he has already left some sperm inside of you. It sounds like you don't want to get pregnant, so you need to be using condoms, before he even touches you with his penis, and leave the condom on the whole time you have sex! And do this each and every time you have sex, whether you think it's your fertile time of month or not!

A women on a 28 day cycle can become pg anywhere from 10-14 days after her period and is fertile for 3-4 days. Anytime you have unprotected sex you are taking chances of becoming pg.

No -- you ovulate one day a month, but you are fertile longer. It just depends on how long the sperm lives inside you (can last up to 5 days -- so if you didn't ovulate the day you did it, but did it in the window you could get pregnant. Be more careful! NEVER have unprotected sex. If I were you I would get on the pill or depo provera shots AND use condoms. Never can be too careful!

Sperm can live inside your body for 3-5 days, so people saying that you can only get pregnant 1 day out of the month is not true at all. My husband's dad was a math genius that worked for NASA and even he messed up the Rhythm Method.
