I will be living in New Cross in the Spring, which is right outside London. I do not want to live on Campus because I am moving there with my fiance. I live in Boston and we have at least a hundred sublet options. Does London/New Cross have the same options? By sublet, I mean fully furnished. I only expect to be there for a period of 6 months or less. If there are sublet options, is there any way to search for them from the United States?

New Cross is a pretty dingy area, and I wouldn´t live there unless I really had to.

The Standard Tenancy Agreement in the UK is for six months. Apartments are usually furnished (rather nastily). You might be able to find someone who will rent you for less: there is currently an excess of rental property on the market in London so you can perhaps haggle.

I suggest you work your way through the ads in Loot, or in the Evening Standard, or contact some local Estate Agents.

I reccomend that you look for somewhere in Greenwich or in Blackheath.

Good luck!

New Cross is considered to be part of London, not seperate from it. It is within the London Borough of Lewisham in the south-east, and we do not think of it as being "outside London".

In the UK , the term "sub-let" legally implies a tenant renting to another tenant, with ( or often without ) the agreement of the landlord. So "sub-letting" is not always strictly legal here.

However, if you simply mean that you wish to rent a fully furnished property, then that is perfectly normal and legal, and you should be able to find a good deal in New Cross, which is not exactly the most "up-market " part of town by any means! The best and safest choice would be to search on Google for Estate Agents ( or Realtors as you call them in the US) in the London Borough of Lewisham area, as most of these will offer a wide range of furnished apartments on short leases.

New Cross is actually a suburb of London. It is in London.. It should be possible to get what you want by getting a list of letting agents from Google.
