I've lived my whole life under the thermonuclear shroud; the first world event I remember happening was the Cuban missile crisis, and since then the spectre of a radioactive holocaust has never been distant. I'm part of the last generation to do air-raid drills in grade school, and know the location of the nearest bomb shelter in every public building. As of today, 61 years since the first A-bombs exploded, there have only been 2 uses of nuclear weapons in war: Hiroshima (06 Aug 1945) and Nagasaki (09 Aug 1945). There was rampant speculation with the breakup of the Soviet Union that nuclear arms would inevitibly appear on the black market, and that oil-rich Islamic terrorists would be buying them in droves. However . . .it hasn't happened yet.
For myself, I tend to worry less about things that I can't possibly prevent or possibly predict; there's too much stuff that's actually happening for me to bother with the rest; for a lot of years I was convinced that the world was going to end any minute, so I lived like a complete self-centerd a-hole because nothing I did mattered, right? Turns out that the way we live does matter, and as long as the bombs aren't falling we have to live the best we can.

Beyond behaving responsibly and trying to select leaders who do the same, there doesn't seem to be any use in worrying about it. I grew up in the 50's when we actually had 'sneak attack' drills where we hid under our desks. I remember when people were building bomb shelters in their yards. The bottom line is if there is a nuclear war, we're probably all goners and everyone knows it. If you're the type who waits for the end of the world, then I guess you will feel comfortable worrying about nuclear war, too. Otherwise, you just need to get on with things and live the best life you can (just in case).

There's one thing certain in life - we're all going to die. We don't know when or how. You're just as dead if you die of old age, disease, drug overdose, a bullet in the head or a nuclear holocaust. Live each day as if it's your last and you'll have a long and happy life. Don't worry about weapons of mass destruction. More people have died of worry than have died of weapons.

It's a very real threat. now in this age there are many countries which can build a neclear bomb and may already doing so but well hid who would love to drop it on us. I think under water crafts can be a real danger, They are virtually undetectable, and can be launched just of shore with ease carring a bomb right into New York City or L.A.
A college student could buy the materials to build a small atomic bomb, and obtain the knowledge to build it.
YOu have so many religious nuts whose have been conditioned sence childhood to beleive they are heavenbound if they kill us that there are pleanty of chances to set off neclear or smart bombs all over the free world in one day.
Its enough to be scary.
And most of this threat is the result of one thing. Keeping women in a submisive role under a few islamic men.
The rest is the ancient haterd of Israel, and land grabs.

i think we should be worried because there are some nations out there that want to control everything and if we have the power to help those that need it then we should. i am not worried about nuclear war because i mean if it happens in my area then it will most likely kill me fast so i wont even know what hit me.

I am much more worried that our system of justice and civil liberties are now a thing of the past. I am much more fearful of a government which has usurped the constitution stolen civil liberties and has made torture the recomended process for interrogation. There is no law no justice and no due process human rights or civil liberties....hey go ahead and nuke me.Give me liberty or give me death!

Nope. I'm more worried about living in a totalitarian police state where all of our freedoms are taken away. More and more, this is looking like an actual possibility, and we've become such sheep that we are blindly, quietly letting it happen.
