when my children were young, they were warned not to speak that way to either me or their father. If they ignored the warning, they recieved a slap in the mouth.

If your kids are teens, you didn't raise them right from the begining and you are reaping what you've sown.

You need to figure out what motivates each kid. The same thing won't work for everyone. You need both positive and negative consequences that the kids can rely on. Having something to look forward to can help them be good. But, the consequences have to be reliable and consistent or they will only make it worse because they will push to break you.

Whenever you start disciplining your kids, they will get worse for a week or two before they get better.

Your kids are that way for a reason, what have they been taught and grown up around they will become. You need to take a closer look at the way you have raised them and what they have been exposed to, to find out why they are that way and attempt to fix it the problem not just treat the symptoms with punishment, that will only breed contempt if that is what they have grown up around and learned. Children imitate what they see. Without more specifics this is all I will say, think about.
