Well, that depends on the particular horse. Because Gypsy Vanners have draft horse conformation but riding horse size, their athletic abilities vary greatly within the breed. As several others have said, Gypsy Vanners are quite expensive. There are only a little over 400 Gypsy Vanners in the United States, so it may be rather hard to find one for sale with the conformation that you are looking for. Gypsies can make good jumpers, but you need to look for a lighter one, in relation to the typical size of the breed. As others have suggested, you probably should consider a smaller breed if you plan on competing.

One more thing: Where are some of these "horse people" coming from? People, if you don't know the answer to to question, just don't answer it. Stop making crap up; this girl is trying to get actual answers to her honest question!

Gypsy Vanners are a bit heavy for jumping, I would think. They are better for harness use, or riding, but maybe a Vanner crossed with a Thoroughbred would be a cool jumper. And they are no more expensive than any other breed. Where do these folks get these ideas?/

Unless you're rich, you might want to look into another breed. Gypsy Vanners are extremely rare in the United States. You'd be lucky to get one for under $10,000. And if you do then it's probably going to be a yearling or two-year-old, and thus would require several years of maturing and training before he/she can jump.

Gypsy Vanners are not meant for jumping.
These are classed as a heavy horse and their legs could not stand up to the rigors of jumping becasue of their weight.
They are most suited for driving and pulling carts or wagons.
That is what they were really bred for was pulling a wagon.

, Thoroughbreds, Irish Draughts, & Thoroughbred crosses are great for jumpers, warm bloods are bred for jumping & excel at most jumping events. Gypsy Vanners are beautiful & colorful but are not bred for jumping, even though they can be used in small jumps, they are similar to a small draft horse, average height is 14hh to 15.1 and weigh 1200 to 1700 lbs, thats a compact horse! If you want to jump and go for the high ones get yourself a warmblood jumping horse, if you want a beautiful GV go for it and just enjoy the horse for what he can do.

The heavy weights arent that good at jumping because that is alot of body to lift over anything. He'll jump if he had to but I wouldnt push it.
