Sometimes it just takes time. When I went to the doctor before ttc with my husband they told me that it can take up to a year to get pregnant. Especially after any kind of birth control. We finally concieved a baby after months of trying. Also it's taken us a full year to concieve again. Don't worry too much about it right now. If after a year you still have had no luck then go see the doctor. Also I don't know about other insurance companies but my insurance covers the cost of fertility treatments if it's taking medications. THey also cover some of the cost for invitrofertilization so maybe your insurance will have something like that also! Goodluck and just have lots of sex!

Hi! Honestly, no you aren't too young! And if a fertility specialist turns you away, she isn't doing her job. I am 18, I tried to get pregnancy for a year, and when I graduated high school, after a year of trying, the dad and I decided that we would go to the doctor and tell him we were trying. And then I just ended up pregnant! I think my body just knew it was time, as I was still in high school when I was trying earlier. I am sorry your gynecologist looked at you funny. At least she didn't try talking you out of it! Go to a fertility specialist. My periods were irregular as well from being on birth control. Just have sex a lot! Good luck! My baby is due this coming feb!

My husband and I started ttc immediately after we married 1988. I have never had regular periods so I thought it would be tough. I went to doctor after doctor and was told I was too fat or don't worry it will happen. In 1998 we went to an actual fertility specialist. He found out that I had a condition called hyperplasia (my uterine lining was too thick) and he gave me Provera to help me have periods. I really got my hopes up and tried and tried again for the next 5 years. I decided to give up. We moved out of town and just went about life as normal. In Aug. 2005 we moved back home and upon getting a new job I had to go for a physical. The doctor performing the physical said that I needed to see an ob/gyn for something called PCOS. I found the absolute best doc out there and on the very first meeting he discovered that I had PCOS and a 9lb cyst leaning against my left tube. He removed the cyst Oct. 2005 and then put me on Metformin to regulate my periods (which it did 28 days like clockwork, 1st time in my life) and gave me Clomid to help in ovulation. I took the Clomid for 3 months at 100mg each but to my dismay it did not help. My doctor seems to believe that the Metformin alone will do the trick. We have yet to get pregnant but we are very hopeful. As for costs, we have extremely good insurance so most of the surgery and medical costs have been covered. Clomid is not covered by most insurances but it is the least expensive fertility treatment it was $40.00 for 10 pills. The Metformin is actually a diabetes medicine that has many other uses so insurance will cover it. It only costs $10.00 a month. My husband was tested back in 1998 (after stopping smoking for 4 years) and it was on the low side of normal. He tested again Aug. 2006 (after smoking again 5+ years) and he tested beyond excellent. That test was not covered by insurance and it cost $115.00. The only things that my husband did differently between the 2 tests were switched to boxers, takes one a day for men and 500mg vitamin c everyday. I am 39 and hubby is 48 and we are still trying for #1. We are not giving up until God tells us that it definitely isn't going to happen. I hoped this helped. If you'd like to talk more about it please feel free to email me this id @yahoo.com. Hope this helped and good luck ttc!!

My husband and I tried for 7 years. We went to a fertility center and had IUI. It cost about $2000.00. Apparently, I was getting pregnant every month, and not knowing it, and having miscarriages. My body doesnt produce enough hormones for the baby to implant itself. I would never had known that if I hadnt been going to a specialist. I was on Letrozole pills and progesterone. I got pregnant the first time. Was scary cause when I found out I was pregnant, they did a blood test and said my HCG level was to low, and if it didnt climb higher I would miscarry. I am now 7 1/2 months pregnant. Dont listen to people who say it will happen when it is right and so on. If I hadnt seen a specialist, I would not be pregnant now. It may be something small, and not that expensive. It sucks cause insurance does not cover any type of infertility. We saved about $1000.00 and told my parents and his, if you want grandchildren, pitch in, and they did. Its good to have it up front because you have to pay for services up front. The most expensive things were the ultra sounds, and I had to have like 3. Good luck to you.

My husband and I have been TTC for just over three years now. I was having trouble regulating my periods and went to see my regular Ob-Gyn after about 7 months of TTC. He tried a few things that didn't work (actually his treatment set me back according to my new doc) and he referred me to a Fertility Specialist. It took 3 months to get into see the FS. Our first appointment with him was after 1 year TTC.
Initially the treatments and visits didn't cost that much. I contacted my Insurance Carrier prior to my first appointment and got pre-approved for a lot of the visits. They paid about half of each visit. Therefore each visit cost us around $85.00. It was difficult finding the money to pay for it. But we didn't care. We would pay it in order to be parents. We cut back on things: we didn't eat out as much, we didn't take a vacation, I stopped buying new clothes, things like that.
We are still seeing our FS. We have been 2 years under his treatment and I quit keeping track of the cost. My condition is covered under my insurance so some visits were medically related and others were fertility related. We have just completed our first attempt at In Vitro Fertilization and are awaiting the results. (We find out on Tuesday the 24th if we are pregnant.) I estimate, that with this new treatment and if our insurance didn't cover some of the past 2 years, that we have spent over $25,000.00.
If it comes to visiting a FS for you and your husband and the cost is too much to handle, then check out this website: http://www.capitalonehealthcarefinance.com/fertility/
We have financed our IVF through them. The rates are very good and the payments are low.
My co-worker's husband had low sperm count. The FS told them that IVF was their best option. However she did some research and they went to see a Urologist. The Urologist performed a procedure to 'clean out' his tubes. Within three months with no other medical intervention, she was pregnant.
My advice: Once you have reached one year TTC, make an appointment with a FS. However, Do Your Own Research. Knowing your body and your options is your best chance.
Good Luck!!!!

We've been trying for three years now, no luck. Decided to enlist the services of an adoption agency.
