i belive the 96 was electronic, so it might be a wiriering problem, but to be sure send into ford, they can tell you really quick, or just just give te parts dept. a call , they will help ya, good luck.....

If the speedometer still works, then the gear in the odometer in the instrument cluster is worn down. I assume that you have a car without an electronic odometer.

A broken speedometer cable will stop everything.
All these "mechanics".
There was no mention of speedpmeter problem.
I would guess, from "years ago", that we are looking at a vintage auto. Things wear out, odometers wear out.
I don't know what state you are in but your Dept. of Motor Vehicles, or what ever they call it in your locality, should have an answer.

oyur mustang may have a speed sensor that is not working. ford started putting these on there cars in 1985 to replace a speedometer cable????

it could be the cable or it could be the platice gear in the transmission has last its teeth or it could be just a simple fix it came undone under the dash

there's a break inside the cable sheath somewhere,or a loose connection at the tranny or in the dash!!
