when was your baby's heartbeat detected? i'm roughly 12 weeks and on the slender side, have had no problems with my pregnancy, everything feels "normal" to the ob-gyn, but they can't find the heartbeat. they tried for 15-20 mins but couldn't detect anything. when did everyone else hear theirs for the first time?

I am 21 weeks and my doctor has yet to find the baby's heartbeat with the dopplar. I have had 3 ultrasounds and they have all been normal, including the 20 week one I just had. I am slightly overwieght and appearently carrying my son low. So, as long as the u/s are normal then I'm not worried. Though by my 14 week check up when we hadn't heard the heartbeat, I asked my doctor for an ultrasound just to ease my mind. If you find that not hearing the heartbeat is worrying you then you have the right to ask for an u/s early, just for your own piece of mind. :)

They should've dectected the heart by now in my opinion. I went When I was about 10-11 weeks and the doctor found it right away. They might have to do a vaginal one that way then can hear it, but mine was heard and around that time. So talk to your doctor. DId they at least detect a heartbeat through ultrasound? If they did then I wouldnt worry about it too much.

Don't think negative!! Sometimes it's the machine, sometimes it's the nurse or doctor just not being able to get to that certain area to hear his/her heartbeat. Have you had a sonogram? That tells everything. I really can't remember how old mine were, but it seems they were close to if not right on 12 weeks, but again every person holds their baby differently and are built differently. If you are scared or curious why they have this problem - tell them up front..HEY!! We're talkin my baby here - what do we need to do to make sure everything is okay in there! That's your right!!

Okay, I heard mine at 8 weeks. But, it is not uncommon if you don't hear it at 8 weeks, 10 weeks, or even 12 weeks. Sometimes, the baby can be hiding behind the placenta which can make it hard to find a heart beat. That happend to me. Or your baby can be stuborn and be hiding. Trust your OBGYN. They will know if there is a problem and if everything looks good, then baby may just have stage fright! Good Luck.

First of all
The heart is formed in about 33 days or sometimes 7-8 weeks of pregnancy.YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE YOUR FIRST SONAR AT THAT TIME to detect the vitality of the baby if it is alive or if ti dead and a missed abortion. Hearing the beat is variable and wont be heard exccept before the 20wth week unless you are so thin. i RECOMMEND that you have an ultrasound scan at once to see the vitatlity of the baby at the moment

when my cousin was pregnant and she went in for her first checkup around that time they couldn't find the baby's heartbeat either. she also freaked out but they told her that they would just have to wait until the ultrasound to detect the heartbeat. her baby was perfectly fine and she was just born a few weeks ago weighing in at 7lbs 10oz. so you have nothing to worry about. the baby is probably just in a position where the doctors can't pick it up. they are stubborn sometimes. lol. they are human, don't forget.

I am 17 weeks, and just heard the baby's heartbeat at my last appointment last week. About 16 weeks is normal.
At this stage it is easier to see it on your ultra sound. You'll get lots of different responses, but if your doctor wasn't worried, then you shouldn't be either.

i havent heard my babies heartbeat yet and im 5 months but the doctor says its there they can see it on the screen. if the doctor is using a regular stethoscope then you might have to wait about another 4-8 weeks. but they should be able to detect it on the screen when you have the ultrasound

Well normaly they say around 13 weeks you can find the heart beat. I am preg right now and I am about 12 weeks also but when I went at my 10 1/2 week mark we could hear the babys heart beat behind mine just fine. But that was surprising to my doc so around 13 weeks wait till your next apt you will hear it :) will bring tears to your eyes to hear that little one inside!

This is sooo variable and depends on you and the baby cooperating. You should be able to see the heart beating on a sonogram though and that would reassure you. Also, a sonogram this early will more accurately date your pregnancy so you will know better when you will deliver. Are you scheduled to have a sonogram soon? If not, ask for one.
