Most states require that you be at least 18, but some states have classes through schools and community colleges that you can take prior to that. You just have to be 18 to be certified by the state.
Look in the phone book (online?) for your local County Health Department. They can answer all of your questions and may be able to lead you to a state recognized teacher.
