i have a friend, who ALWAYS invites her young adult daughter along for activities. I NEVER extend an invite for the daughter, and yet, she always brings her. I don't particularly like the daughter, and neither do my other friends. It is getting to the point where i don't even want to invite my friend, but if she found out we were doing a "gathering" without her (and i know she would find out) she would be heartbroken. Its just so annoying how my friend just can't do anything alone!! any suggestions? do i just cut ties?

You'll have to tell her face to face that her daughter needs to find friends her own age.

You should invite her on something that her daughter would not have any interest in. She may have a good time without her daughter and the next time you invite her, she may be alone.

If this doesnt work, explain discreetly next time you invite her for something that you'd like just her to come so you can spend some time with only her. She will most likely understand.

If she is a close friend, why can't you sit down and discuss the fact that although she enjoys her daughter's company, you and the others would like to keep the gatherings for people your age.

Besides, it sounds as though the young daughter should be hanging out with people her own age.

I think you should gently tell her that her daughter doesn't quite fit in the group. You could even say something about her being younger and you being a bit older and you and your friends don't relate to her. Try to do it nicely because she is your friend. She may be clueless to the fact you are all uncomfortable with the younger woman around.

Sit down with your friend and tell her that her daughter is not invited. Be prepared for her to get upset and be prepared to cut ties.

If she is a "friend", you should just tell her you are not inviting her daughter along unless you specify.
