I am not sure why so many are in the closet, I think I would agree with the idea that it is the new "thing" to try out and be hip with.
I am married, I am bi-sexual, my now husband knew that and accepted it years ago when he met me, and that has not changed. we have been together for 10 years, and we recently got married, ( it is easier to deal with joint property and taxes if married) I have had several girl friends in our time together, one relationship lasted 5 years, it was very open, and honest.
No to answer the other question I get asked, we are not swingers, he does not have sex with my girl friends or "get to watch" or any of the other crap.
I think if your in a relationship you should be comfortable enough to be honest and have honest communication.

Some people, married or not, but since you are specifically talking about married people, I'll go there. When you get married, and have other issues, you are a cheat from the start by not being honest. This is like asking a liar to be honest; they just don't get it.

I hope you'll accept an answer from a formerly Married Gay Man.
We stay closeted to protect ourselves, our families, our friends, etc. We give in to the pressures and expectations of a society that is making progress, but still fairly ignorant about "us". So, we go get married because that's what society tells us to do.

My case is different.
I didn't know I was bi-sexual, I learned it 4 years ago.
I always loved to see my friends nude, admire womens beauty.
Once in a party whilE I was drunk, another girl came on me while I was in a bed room resting, 'cause I got dizzy.
Wow, I didn't know it was that great. All at once I understood why women excited me so much, I was bisex

I dunno what "proposition" you are refering to, if I may guess you are probably talking about wommen who want to have sex with you, if so then I would think it might be because they want to see if your up for a threesome maybe. Truthfully I could only guess it could also be- cause their husbands are not satisfying enough? And also you probably come off as a woman that would be wiling to get involved with another woman.

They are scared to come out , the sex addicts who talk about experimenting obviously are leaving out falling in love,,, I fell deeply in love with my best friend I knew for years,, I had no idea she was closeted but I got the gaydar years ago , all my gay friends got it ,, she is simply scared like the guy says , societys cruelty, may be trendy to swing but that crap been going on since beginning of time , being a lesbian is not a choice or a fling , we fell deeply in love because we love to talk for hours have many things in common laugh together are like forest and jenny in forrest gump but we are both mid age and there is a crap load of baggage and fears she is a doctor with 4 sons and a very abusive situation , and not raised in the cool generation we were told so many things to stay afraid of who we were ,, ie going to hell to men being beaten and thrown in jail for just going to a club,, people were killed,, nobody could talk about it and that is what the gay movement was about Harvey Milk gave his life for, it is still alive and well ,, seen OUT late it is not trendy that is just sex it is HOMOPHOBIA plain and simple , if you have not experienced being truly gay and trapped in the proverbial closet you have no idea until you have really been stifled for wanted to love who you love , ,,,, in our generation it was just not like coming out on Ellen or going on you tube and making a video about how unfair it all is today is nothing compared to those of us who pioneered coming out,,,, losing jobs getting bullied being called horrible names and also getting a dishonorable discharge for being who you are,,,, it is,,,, simply closet fear and bigoted fearful straights,,,, my story sticking to it,,,

Well, for some it could be the best situation. No tired, stale relationships to manage. Exciting semi-anonymous sex.
