I'd take a card to leave for him and a picture of the two of you together if you have one. For his family, take a small basket or bag of individually wrapped snacks, chewing gum, mints, and a roll of quarters. They're likely to be at the hospital a lot and these things would be much appreciated. Best to you and your friend.

I once saw this thing for Valentines Day that had candy taped to a poster board. The candy was still wrapped of course. But the person made a message of writing words and words from the candy. Like "I hit the PAYDAY when I met you" That's a bit silly I think. If you want something funny that may work. I think if you go to familyfun.com you might be able to find it. It's a fun thing to do. Good luck to your friend.

People in a coma can still hear, so make a tape with all his friends leaving messages saying you're waiting for him and you miss him and tell him about any clubs he was in. Stuff like that sometimes helps them come out of it sooner. We know they can hear because people have 'woken up' and knew who came to visit them.

Great sense of humor?
Get a copy of the hospital bill and show him how much he's worth.... then tell him even though you cost so much...we didn't unplug you.
It worked on me...lol.
