Is 1.5TB the biggest a computer can hold hard drive wise?

If a mother board can hold up to, lets say, 4 serial hard drives - can you put four 750GB serial hard drives equalling up to 3.0TB?
or
If a mother board can hold up to, lets say, 8 serial hard drives - can you put eight 750GB serial hard drives equalling up to 6.0TB?
