I really want a second child but I am still breastfeeding and my periods returned irregularly for a few months and dissapeared again. I am not breastfeeding much, about 3 times a day but no periods, could I still concieve without menstruating?

The one I am breastfeeding now is 12 months old, so its not like shes a young baby but she is definitely not ready to give up BFing, she is really attached to having it when she wakes up and after naps, I really don't mind either way apart from the fact that iits harder for me to get pregnant so it's not like I'm BFing her for my sake.

Also to the person that said work out my cycle, how do I do that if I have no periods?

Yes you can. Start charting and you will know when you ovulate. There are websites like fertilityfreind and ovusoft that can help.

You menstruate because of ovulation. I would assume that w/o a period you are not ovulating. But just as they say you only have to have sex once to get pregnant (even a virgin), you never know when you are going to ovulate.

(I just read other replies and I had no idea about ovulating w/o the period thing while breastfeeding...interesting)

I understand your desire but there are cautions when trying to conceive so soon after birth. I am assuming that your child is under a year old if you are still breastfeeding. If this is the case - and this is personal opinion - I would wait a little while. The body takes at least a year to recover from pregnancy/labor/hormonal changes and another pregnancy so soon would probably be very hard on your body. Not that it has never happened before (my grandma found out she was prego again at her 6 week check up) but I would look into to be cautious.

If your child is over a year old, and I know breastfeeding over a year is a preference, but as far as I know there is no medical benefit to breastmilk after the 1st year - just as in the case of formula. So if your child is over a year old the option is up to you. Do you stop breastfeeding for the sake of another child or take a chance on getting pregnant while breastfeeding.

most likely you wont get pregnant i have an 18 month old and am 9 months pregnant right know. this is hard i cant play with my baby any more because my belly is in the way im tired all the time and can't chase after him. i have not enjoyed my pregnancy one bit and now with the baby coming soon im scared about having enough time to bond with my newbord because i have to chase the older one around. this is hard and don't recomend doing it. 6 more months would have made a big difference for me please wait if you can.

Doctors have been known to say 'yes'. If theres a will theres a way. However, I would ask your G.Y.N. aka doctor. Good luck. I made sure I had my second one at least two years apart. That's just me. I'm glad they're not too far apart and not too close together due to stress levels. Good luck!

YES YES YES!!! Although it is true that its harder to get pregnant while nursing, it is not impossible, and the fact that you are down to only 3 times a day, your chances are pretty good. Go for it...best of luck.

Give your body a rest. wait. Try to space the children at least two years apart for your wellbeing and the childrens.

What is the rush. Try to let the new baby grow a bit.

Possibly. I was not breastfeeding when I conceived my children, but my sister-in-law conceived her second AND third while breastfeeding. Good luck!
