When they said that the endometrium is thick it is usually a normal part of the cycle. I don't know if you are aware of how the menstrual cycle occurs, but the endometrium growns and swells with blood and becomes soft, ready to accomodate a fertilized ovum. If this does not occur, the endometrium breaks down and sheds, so that on ultrasound it will appear much thinner. The doctor performing the ultrasoun asked you if you where going to get your period soon because just before your period the endometrium is still soft and thick and full of blood, and therefore appears thicker on ultrasound.

Endometrium is the inner most lining of the womb. It is regenerated and shed every month and which is what we call as periods. Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding is a bleeding of unknown cause, probably because of hormonal imbalance. It is more common in elderly women, who are approaching their menopause. One of the main treatment for DUB is OC Pills. But, the estrogen component of the pills can produce many side effects especially higher risk of cancer of the female genital tract. Endometrial cancer is recognised on ultrasound by more than usual thickening of the ultrasound. But, don't worry, there are many possible causes for such thickening. Cancer is one of the last considerations. Your gynae may advice you to undergo Hysterectomy now which is the best treatment for you now. Follow up with your doctor and see what he/she says. He is the best person to decide what is good for you. This is only insight into your problem.

Enometrium is the lining of your uterus that you shed in your menses. From mense to mense it thickens to accommodate a fertilized egg, if you do not get pregnant then when it is thickest and when it is time you have your mense and that is it! Unless you have an exact medical condition with it being constantly thick for some reason this is nothing to worry about!

That means your endometrial lining of your uterus is thick, That usually happens before a period- during a period the excess tissue falls off.
