I thought Colleen started to make some good points, of course that was until she mentioned Elvis and then her whole argument got cancelled out....
I've worked generally for US companies, so I won't bite at the hand that has fed me.....one in particular, bloody well with all of their stock options....
Personally, I couldn't live in America, I don't like it, and on the whole Americans seem to be a self centred and shallow bunch. However, I am generalising..... I have come across a few Americans (generally the world travellers), that are pretty decent sorts.... a bit lightweight when it comes to staying up late, but nevertheless decent sorts!
Having travelled extensively through the US, my favourite part is indeed coming home... so I will have to agree with you and say the best thing to come out of America is the large Boeing 747-400 carrying my butt home to the UK.

As an Englishman I have to say...
My wife....
Wacky foreign policy....
Rock n' Roll
Comments about bailing us out in WW2 when they stayed out of it for as long as was possible hiding...
Burgers
Wacky foreign policy
Taco Bell needs to get over here.. it pisses on kebabs for a 3am drunken feast....
Christian Fundamentalism (stress the mental bit)
Dodge Viper's
In general Yanks are nice people just a little different in their views of the world to us Brits... it's what comes from living in a country that is 100's of times bigger than ours. It makes them more insular and less open to the outside influences that we have been touched by... Also they are only a few hundred years old as a country so they are bound to be a bit mental on the patriotism.. we got that out of our system a good 50 years ago...
It's the politicians we need to be criticising on both sides of the Atlantic really...

as an American living in London for the past 10 years, i have to say, the British must be very jealous of the Americans and of success in general. i could slag the general British attitude for a long time, but that wouldn't answer the question.
well, i think our soldiers were pretty helpful in both world wars, unless you would prefer to be speaking German.
it was our money that rebuilt a lot of Europe post 1918.

Now come on Zulu9 there are some lovely American people in this world, have you ever been to America or are you basing your feelings on media stories of them, bet if someone was to offer you an all expenses paid trip of a lifetime to America you'd be on that plane yourself, don't judge everyone who comes from America, there are some lovely people from there just like the lovely people we have here in the UK.
